Joy is an established British comedian, writer, speaker, actress and advocate based in London.

COMEDY

 

Joy’s Love of performing started early when she joined the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain and she hasn’t looked back despite many challenges and setbacks. Her first career highlights came when she was recognised in 2008 and nominated for an EMMA Award (*Ethnic multicultural media award). She as performed comedy at the London Hilton with Claudia Winkleman for Jo Malone London Beauty Awards performed her shows at the London Comedy Store, Jongleurs and spent over 15 years being a regular circuit comedian. Joy has toured the comedy festival scene taking her shows on the road to Edinburgh Fringe, Brighton, Nottingham, Swindon and Leicester comedy festival to name a few over her 20 years as a stand-up comedian

 

Joy has many broadcasting credits to her name either commenting on the topical days news stories most recently BBC1 Sunday Morning Live, to regularly being asked onto shows such as SKY News, BBC News 24, Nick Ferrari Show, LBC with Iain Dale, BBC Radio London 94.9FM with Eddie Nestor and BBC World Service to name a few.

 

Corporate Work

 

Joy has built up many strong relationships with corporate clients over the years that have seen her deliver shows for Schroder’s Corporate Wealth, RBS Bank, Bond Dickinson, The Metropolitan Police, Diocese of Leicester and many universities such as Brunel University and their Centre for Comedy Studies, Nottingham Trent University, Goldsmiths University and Grimsby University to name a few.

 

Writing

 

Joy was asked to write a poem for Coram Baaf to be used for their national campaign for National Adoption Week in 2022, so Joy penned ‘Adoption is beautiful’.  She went on to be featured in the campaign too. She has also written for children’s book ‘Bravely Being Me’ for Adopt UK that saw her story turned into a cartoon. She was asked to write a chapter in the powerful bestseller for Dr Perlia Harris ‘Chosen’.

Speaker

Joy has become a specialist speaker and is in demand in the UK and abroad, her topics include

Diversity and Difference.

Joy uses her transracial adoption experience to develop better working practice for others, and for those working in diverse situations.

Laughter talk

Understanding the realms of joyfulness

Laughter is the best medicine; Joy has spent her life reading and studying why the science behind laughter works

and with so many mental health issues today, this talk combined with humour is powerful.

 

Adoption

Whether Joy is working for the government, going into schools, comedy shows, churches or community organisations or charities, her dedication to her lifelong story leads her.

Adoption Advocacy

Since the own adoption story going viral in 2006 Joy hasn’t looked back with engaging her passion for adoption, fostering and government over the years.  She has built relationships and worked with organisations such as Coram Baaf, NAFP, Social Work England, Cornerstone Partnerships and IAC to name a few. She set up AdoptionArena.com in 2014 to help others engage with the adoptee story and founded Adoption Arena Podcast during lockdown that would go onto be featured in Good Housekeeping magazine, chat and Best.

 

Acting

 

Joy played Mrs Turner in Deep State 2, The Beast (London Film School) and most recently in a commercial for Hilary Blinds.

 

Faith

 

As a Christian all of her work is based in truth, her comedy work clean and she is passionate about delivering a high standard of work to better society and others.  She has worked with many religious groups to inspire and encourage others to use their voice and gifts fully.
